Marie Curie was a pioneering physicist and chemist who conducted groundbreaking research on radioactivity. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and remains the only person to have won Nobel Prizes in two different scientific fields: Physics & Chemistry. She discovered the elements polonium and radium, and her work laid the foundation for the development of X-ray machines. Marie Curie's contributions to science were immense, and she is remembered as one of the most influential scientists in history. Happy Women's Day!
Gloria Steinem is a fearless force who redefined feminism and helped ignite a revolution. As a writer, activist, and changemaker, she shattered barriers, amplifying the voices of women worldwide. Co-founder of Ms. Magazine, she fought relentlessly for gender equality, reproductive freedom, and social justice. She challenged oppression, inspiring me to rise, resist, and reclaim my power. Her legacy is one of courage, defiance, and unstoppable change. The image I share with you is meant to recreate the 1997 National Women's Conference, where she was a speaker.
Sandra Nicholas took the Canadian government into court on a global scale.
Like many women, marrying a non-Indigenous man led to separation from their status and culture.
Her advocacy brought attention to the injustice faced by Indigenous women of Canada. The United Nations (UN) committee urged Canada to allow the reinstatement of their status; this ensured that women could reclaim their identity through the amendment of Bill C-31.
Sandra Nicholas greatly influenced the lives of many, as it is through women,
the bearers of future generations, that adversity is prevailed over.
Cleopatra VII was the last queen of ancient Egypt. She was born in 69 BCE and became queen at just 18 years old. Cleopatra spoke many languages and was a skilled leader. She worked hard to keep Egypt strong and independent, even as powerful Rome tried to take control.
One of her biggest contributions was her leadership and influence in politics. She formed important alliances with Roman leaders like Julius Caesar and Mark Antony to protect her kingdom. She also encouraged trade and supported the arts and sciences in Egypt.
I chose Cleopatra for International Women's Day because she showed that women can be strong, smart, and powerful leaders. She faced many challenges but never gave up. Her story inspires women to be confident and to take charge of their own futures.
In 1966, Marie Van Brittan Brown, an African American nurse, invented the first home security system to protect herself in her neighborhood. Marie's security system has enabled many individuals to observe outside activities and identify visitors without having to walk toward the door.
In the 1800s, Ada Lovelace, an English mathematician and writer, was credited as the world's first computer programmer. Ada Lovelace Day is celebrated on October 10th to raise awareness of her achievements and to recognize women pursuing a career in STEM fields.
Suleika Jaouad started making watercolors and publishing her writings while in the hospital during treatment for leukemia. She is an artist, writer, cancer survivor, and advocate. She is an inspiring woman whose book Between Two Kingdoms, among other writings, has helped people, especially those in the young adult cancer community, not feel so alone while navigating treatment for cancer and trying to create a life post-active treatment.
Once upon a time, in the early 1800s, there lived a brave woman named Zheng Yi Sao. She was not an ordinary woman; she was a fierce pirate! Zheng Yi Sao sailed the South China Sea, leading her crew of pirates on many exciting adventures. Zheng Yi Sao was born in a small fishing village. When she was young, she worked as a maid and later married a pirate captain named Zheng Yi. After he passed away, she became the captain of his fleet. She became known as the most powerful pirate in all of China, commanding over 200 ships and many pirates who looked up to her.
Her story started one bright morning. Zheng Yi Sao stood on the deck of her ship, the Sea Dragon. The sun sparkled on the water, and the wind blew gently through her hair. She looked at her crew and smiled. They had a big plan for the day. They were going to raid some merchant ships that crossed their path. The treasure they could find would make them richer than ever. Before they set sail, Zheng Yi Sao gathered her crew. "Listen, friends! " she called out. "We must be smart and brave! If we work together, we can take what we need without harming anyone. We are pirates, but we have our own code! " The crew cheered, and their excitement grew.
As they sailed, they spotted a large merchant ship. Zheng Yi Sao ordered her crew to get ready. They hid behind the waves, waiting for the perfect moment to attack. The merchant ship moved slowly, unaware of what was coming. Suddenly, Zheng Yi Sao shouted, "Now! " They rushed like a whirlwind, boarding the merchant ship in no time. The merchants were scared, but Zheng Yi Sao waved her hand. "We will take your goods, but we won't hurt you. Just sail away and tell others to respect our waters! "
Zheng Yi Sao, after collecting gold, silk, and spices, shared her wealth with her village, inspiring them to build homes and schools, demonstrating true strength comes from the heart. She proved that a woman could lead and inspire!
I decided to recreate Vivienne Westwood's look from a gala that was hosted in her honour in 1998. She wore a dress that was her own design for the same year's autumn/winter collection. Vivienne Westwood always created fashion forward looks and she is considered as one of the most influential fashion designers.
Malala Yousafzai the Pakistani activist who fought for girls' education and became the youngest Nobel Prize laureate. so inspiring to see young women fighting for women's rights and such powerful words.
Fa Mulan, a legendary figure, disguised herself as a man to take her elderly father's place in the army, defying a society that forbade women from fighting. She trained, fought bravely, and became a respected warrior. When the war was won, her comrades were shocked but admired her upon learning her true identity. Mulan's powerful story challenges society's rules. Proving that courage, intelligence, sacrifice, and honor matter more than gender, making her an inspiration for women and warriors.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a trailblazing figure who became an iconic symbol of justice and equality. As the second woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court, Ginsburg's legal career was marked by her tireless work advocating for gender equality, civil rights, and the protection of individual freedoms. She faced numerous challenges as a woman in a male-dominated profession but persevered, fighting against discrimination in all its forms. Her powerful dissents, particularly in cases related to women's rights, became a source of inspiration for many, earning her the nickname "The Notorious RBG." Ginsburg's legacy continues to inspire generations of individuals who believe in the power of perseverance, fairness, and the pursuit of justice.
I chose Anna May Wong, the first Asian actress in Hollywood!
Jane austin is probably not a woman you'd think of when thinking of the many amazing women in history.
But she is truly one who broke the mold for the women in her time, publishing books about society struggles for women born in 18th century england. During janes lifetime she had to publish her works such as pride and predjudice, emma, and sense and sensibility as being written by a lady not in her real name, as attaching a womans name to a work was not seen as proper. Enduring this treatment took bravery that today woman can enjoy the stories and lessons left behind by Janes work. How far we have come in todays world for women can look as simple as enjoying writing and sharing life lessons, thats why ive chosen Jane Austin , A true herioine who made history.
Princess Diana.
Who was Princess Diana? Princess Diana was a British royal and international icon for her charm, activism, and humanitarian work! What were Princess Diana's best accomplishments? Some notable things Diana has done were charitable work, such as working with the Red Cross to ban land mines and founding a charity to support homeless young people. She has done charitable work in Nepal and Zimbabwe, as well as always advocating for mental illness and people affected by cancer. She is majorly known for raising awareness for patients with HIV/AIDS, as well as opening the first HIV/AIDS unit hospitals in the UK.
I wanted to go way into the past to celebrate women's day! We can't forget the first woman to EVER fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, Mrs. Amelia Earhart! She advocated for women in aviation. Thank you Mrs. Earhart for opening doors for young women.
My person is : Rosie the Riveter
Rosie the Riveter is more than just an iconic symbol. She represents the strength, resilience, and determination of countless women who answered the call to action during World War II. While men went off to fight, women like Rosie stepped up to fill vital roles in factories, shipyards, and other industries that were essential to the war effort.
Rosie became the face of this new generation of women workers, showing the world that women could excel in fields traditionally dominated by men. With her rolled-up sleeves and confident pose, she wasn't just a fictional character. She was a representation of empowerment, pride, and the idea that a woman's potential is limitless.
Her legacy is still felt today, as she continues to inspire women to break barriers, challenge stereotypes, and contribute to every field imaginable. Rosie the Riveter reminds us that courage and determination know no gender, and that every effort, no matter how small it may seem, can make a huge difference in the world.
Dressed as: Coco Chanel
Woozworld is a game where fashion takes center stage, and it's only fitting that we pay tribute to some of the world's most iconic designers. Among them, the one I admire most is Coco Chanel. Her keen understanding of women's fashion, fearless ambition, and extraordinary journey—from humble beginnings to global influence have left an indelible mark on the industry. Beyond her timeless designs, her life's story, filled with determination, romance, and reinvention, continues to inspire countless books, films, and plays as well.
