Setting Up Your Story

Every great story starts with a strong foundation. When creating a new Visual Novel:

  • Enter a Title and Description -- Don't worry, you can change this later!
  • Chapters & Sequences -- Each novel can have up to 5 chapters (levels), and each chapter consists of a sequence of up to 50 commands.

The Editing Interface -- How to Build Your Story

The Visual Novel system works as a sequence of commands that play out in order. Here's what you can do:

Main Command Types:

  • Actor: Add a character to the scene and assign dialogue and/or PoseZ
  • Narrator: Provide story narration or background information.
  • Wait: Control timing and pacing between actions.

Creating & Customizing Characters

Your story is only as strong as your characters! When adding an Actor command to your novel:

  • Choose an existing character or create a new one.
  • Dress them using any of your unlocked Woozworld clothing.
  • Name them and add them to your characters list.
  • Characters can be edited later if you want to change their look or name.

You can currently create up to 4 characters for each novel.

Positioning Your Characters -- Slots & Removing Actors

Each Visual Novel template includes up to 4 character slots where you characters can appear:

Slots #1 and #2 are in the front, #3 and #4 are in the back

After adding an Actor command, tap the positioning icon to assign them to a slot. If you don't manually pick a slot, your character will be automatically added in the next available slot. If the character was already present in your sequence, it will keep its current slot by default.

Tips:

  • Characters can move between slots during the story.
  • The number that shows on each Actor command here is the slot where it will play:

  • If you want a character to leave the scene after their action, select "Remove actor after this action":

Animating Your characters -- PoseZ & MoveZ

Make your characters feel alive! When assigning an Actor command:

  • Select any PoseZ or MoveZ from the list you unlocked
  • Tap on the character preview to adjust the direction they should (note: not all PoseZ supports all angles).

Writing Dialogue for Your Characters

Dialogue is the heart of any great story! When creating dialogue for your characters:

  • Click on the speech bubble icon in the Actor command to enter its line, and click Update to confirm the line. Add one separate Actor command for each line of dialog. By default, the user reading your novel will need to tap to continue reading after each line of dialog (read more on advanced options further down in this article)

  • Keep it engaging -- Short and natural conversations make the story flow smoothly.
  • Use narration to add depth -- Mix dialogue with narrator commands to describe emotions, actions, or suspense.

  • Think about character personalities -- Give each character a distinct voice, whether they're serious, funny, or mysterious.

Controlling Pacing with Wait Commands

The Wait command is a powerful tool for controlling the flow of your story. It allows you to create natural pauses, build suspense, and ensure smoother interactions between characters. There is 2 different ways to achieve this:

Use the Wait Command:

  • Add a Wait command between actions or dialogues to create an artificial pause before the next event.
  • Adjust the time parameter (in milliseconds) to control the length of the pause (e.g., 2000 = 2 seconds).
  • Use short pauses for natural speech rhythm and longer pauses for dramatic effect.

Add a Wait parameter on Actor or Narrator Command:

When adding an Actor or Narrator command, you can set a Wait parameter to control how long the command remains active before automatically progressing to the next one. This is useful for example if you use the Actor command for a reaction where one of your character use a PoseZ but doesn't talk, if you want to wait a moment after the reaction before the next command plays.

Note: Be cautious when using a Wait parameter on a command where an Actor or the Narrator speaks, as the dialogue will automatically continue after the set duration -- even if the text hasn't fully displayed yet.

Advanced Tips

Adding & Rearranging Commands

  • New commands are automatically added at the end of your sequence.
  • To insert a command between existing ones, use the arrow buttons on the right to position the "Add Command" bar before placing it.
  • If you need to reorder or delete commands, tap the "Edit" button at the bottom. This will reveal move up/down arrows for each command, along with a red X to delete.

Testing Your Visual Novel

Want to see your story in action? Tap "Test" to launch a full preview from the start of your sequence.

  • The test mode looks exactly like the final version.
  • After testing, you'll automatically return to the editor to make changes if needed.
